Stewart Barroll, General Counsel and Partner, is an attorney in private practice in Chestertown, Maryland, as a member of the firm of Cookerly & Barroll, LLC. He has also been town attorney for Chestertown since 1997 and a member of the Peer Review Committee for the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commssion.

Stewart is admitted to the Maryland Bar and the Federal Bar, practicing before the US District Court, District of Maryland, the US Court of Appeals (4th Circuit) and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Stewart received his Juris Doctor at Wake Forest University in 1979 and his BA at Washington & Lee University, where he graduated cum laude in history.

Stewart's roots on the Eastern Shore are deep. Since 1780, there has been a Barroll practicing law in Chestertown. As might be expected, history has been a lifelong interest for him. He has served as a reenactor and local historian for many years and has appeared as an extra in many historical films, including Civil War films for various National Park Service visitors centers at National Battlefield Parks.

As well as his involvement as a co-owner and general counsel of Historical Entertainment, LLC, he serves as a Board Member and Secretary for Historical Films, Inc., a nonprofit film company for whom H.E. has worked many times in the past. He also represents an attorney in the 7th U.S. Colored Troops reenactment group in Maryland and is co-organizer of the Annual Kent County Civil War Commemoration Event.

As a reenactor, historian and experienced film extra, as well as a highly regarded attorney, Stewart is uniquely placed to understand H.E.’s business and is just as likely to be shouldering a musket as he is to be writing a contract with a film producer on our behalf.

William L. Moss, Jr., Membership Director. Bill is a retired Naval Officer from Mobile, Alabama who now resides in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he completed his service in 1994 and now acts as our representative West of the Appalachian Mountains.

Judi Flowers, Historical Wardrobe:  As Judi puts it, theatre is in her blood:  she’s part of the third generation of theatre and production experts in her family.  Though she knew theatre an early age, Judi has by no means rested on family laurels.  She started by owning and operating her own Academy of Ballet, including two major productions per year.  Then, after Warner Brothers called on her costuming expertise as technical advisor for North and South, Judi went on to serve as costumer for a variety of Discovery Channel series.

In order to advance her research, Judi moved to Europe in 1989 and lived in London for a time; she still travels there frequently as an international lecturer and costume expert while maintaining a home base in her native Virginia.

While in Europe, Judi has been able to examine antique clothing, jewelry, books and architecture not available in America; she has also interviewed people whose lifestyles still reflect over 100-year-old traditions.  In addition, she has served as an assistant manager for Waterman’s Art Center and has worked with such noteworthy museums as the Louvre, Victoria and Albert, Aberystwyth Yesterday, and many private collections.  Parts of her personal costume collections can be seen at The Isle of Wight Museum in Smithfield, The Hunter House in Norfolk, and the Ryder Museum in London.

Judi’s published works include articles for publications such as Olde Times, Ladies Gallery, Vintage Fashions, and The Wick.  She also wrote the Civil War and Victorian Period reference book entitled Finishing Touches for Ladies

Judi’s professional accomplishments also include an appointment to the Virginia State Historic Advisory Board and first-place finishes in the National Dress Competition of Historic Clothing.  A few of her other production credits include the following:

  • "John Adams" 2007
  • Mission Impossible" 2006
  • Iron Jawed Angels (set costumer, HBO)
  • The F.B.I. Files (costumer for eight episodes, Discovery Channel)
  • The New Detectives:  Case Studies in Forensic Science (assistant costumer/buyer, New Dominion Pictures, distributed by Discovery Channel)
  • North and South (costumer, Warner Brothers)

Mark Hughes, Historical Props:  Mark Hughes started building and supplying props for movie productions in the 1980s and began working full-time for productions in the 1990s.  Since then, he’s never looked back.  He does restoration and conservation work for individuals and museums, acts as a buyer, and rents props to period shows.  He most enjoys his involvement in feature films, television movies and episodic television in the art or prop departments, and loves to work on set if possible.

Mark has been a competitive shooter for over thirty years, exclusively with antique and historic firearms; he routinely acts as a safety officer at national competitions where over one thousand participants gather, making him a natural fit for H.E. productions in which many props must be carefully maintained and managed and actors must be trained to safely and correctly handle period firearms.

Mark’s credentials include a bachelor’s degree in American history from Pfeiffer University, anthropological studies at the University of Tel Aviv, and business school at the University of Virginia.  In addition, Mark has completed historical research and editing for R.W. Beatty, academic publishers; he’s also served as a museum staff member at the Flint Run Paleo Indian Complex, designed historic programs for the Virginia Tech Extension Service, completed architectural research for the Preservation of Historic Winchester (Virginia), appraised and conducted adaptive use studies of historical railroad properties for Conrail, and completed restoration of historic properties as a licensed Virginia contractor.

Mark’s extensive experience in the television and film industries includes work as a prop master or assistant; he’s also designed sets, created budgets for multiple departments, and acted as an art director and production designer for venues such as the History Channel, A & E, and HBO.  A selected list of some of Mark’s credits is as follows:
