Areas where we've provided help in the past include:
If film budgets permit, we can act as your buyers, procuring accurate items. As our membership includes period-specialist antique dealers, we can generally obtain these items at "to the trade" wholesale prices. If budgets do not justify purchase of items, we have a large inventory of props available for rental. Mark Hughes, Historical Props: Mark Hughes started building and supplying props for movie productions in the 1980s and began working full-time for productions in the 1990s. Since then, he’s never looked back. He does restoration and conservation work for individuals and museums, acts as a buyer, and rents props to period shows. He most enjoys his involvement in feature films, television movies and episodic television in the art or prop departments, and loves to work on set if possible.
Mark’s credentials include a bachelor’s degree in American history from Pfeiffer University, anthropological studies at the University of Tel Aviv, and business school at the University of Virginia. In addition, Mark has completed historical research and editing for R.W. Beatty, academic publishers; he’s also served as a museum staff member at the Flint Run Paleo Indian Complex, designed historic programs for the Virginia Tech Extension Service, completed architectural research for the Preservation of Historic Winchester (Virginia), appraised and conducted adaptive use studies of historical railroad properties for Conrail, and completed restoration of historic properties as a licensed Virginia contractor. Mark’s extensive experience in the television and film industries includes work as a prop master or assistant; he’s also designed sets, created budgets for multiple departments, and acted as an art director and production designer for venues such as the History Channel, A & E, and HBO.
